Itinerary

Day 1 · Cusco - Soraypampa - Soyrococha

The trek begins in Cusco and climbs to Soraypampa, base camp at the foot of the Salkantay glacier — the first acclimatization hike through high-Andean grassland.

Day 2 · Soyrococha - Salkantay Pass - Chaullay
Day 2 · Soyrococha - Salkantay Pass - Chaullay

The hardest day of the route: crossing the pass at 4,600 meters, right at the foot of the Salkantay glacier, before descending toward Chaullay, already in humid forest terrain.

Day 3 · Chaullay - Sahuayaco Beach - La Playa

The landscape changes completely on the way down into cloud forest: the vegetation turns dense and tropical, a world away from the Andean scenery of the day before.

The final stretch follows the train tracks into Aguas Calientes, the town at the foot of Machu Picchu, the Urubamba River running alongside the whole way.
