Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Cusco and City Tour

Airport pickup and a free morning to acclimatize. In the afternoon, a tour of the Qorikancha and the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay, returning to Cusco at nightfall.

Day 2 - Sacred Valley and train to Aguas Calientes

We leave at 6:30 a.m. for Chinchero -a colonial church, Inca terraces and a weaving demonstration- then Moray, the circular agricultural terraces used as an Inca laboratory, and the Salineras de Maras, more than 5,000 salt pools still in use since Inca times. Buffet lunch in Urubamba and a visit to Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town still inhabited as it was built. We close the day boarding the train to Aguas Calientes, where your guide gives a briefing ahead of the next day's visit.

Day 3 - Sunrise at Machu Picchu and return to Cusco

Bus up to the citadel gate and a two-hour guided visit through temples, plazas and lookout points along your circuit. Descent to Aguas Calientes with free time for lunch, then a return train to Ollantaytambo with a private transfer to Cusco -estimated arrival between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Day 4 - Southern Valley: Tipón, Piquillacta and Andahuaylillas

We leave at 8:30 a.m. for Tipón, a ceremonial water-worship center where Inca channels still run with millimetric precision. Next is Piquillacta, the region's only pre-Inca Wari citadel, and the town of Andahuaylillas, where the Church of San Pedro Apóstol -known as the "Sistine Chapel of America"- holds gold-leaf work and Cusco School paintings. On the way back, a stop in Oropesa for its famous "chuta" bread and in Saylla for anyone who wants lunch on their own.
